Serpentine (Kingdom of Xia #1)

Serpentine is the story of a young coming of age girl named Skybright. Skybright is the servant girl for the daughter of a wealthy family, Zhen Ni. Skybright and Zhen are roughly the same age so they grow up to become closer than sisters. When Skybright was still a newborn, she was left on the doorstep of Zhen Ni’s home just days before Zhen Ni was born. These two know and keep each other’s secrets. But, there is a secret that Skybright herself is about to learn, yet will she have the strength to share? What/Who is she becoming? Where did she come from? Why did her family leave her when she was just days old?

This story also has romances, dark adventures, and unique concepts. Cindy Pron captures your imagination with beautifully written world building and freshly dynamic characters. You will find yourself completely engulfed in this world of Chinese mythology and fascinating worlds.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I liked reading a diverse book in a genre that lacks a lot of diversity. The one complaint I had was the ending, which really hit me in the feels. The story ended as it should have but it left me wanting to more. I give this book 4 stars, I enjoyed it that much. I know other readers will love to be swept away as well.
