On a sweltering summer day, Daisy Aldridge knocks on the wrong door. She’s yanked inside. Trapped and pressed against her only means of escape she spirals into a panic. Years ago she suffered an assault. Alone and afraid, she kept it hidden and dealt with the emotional aftermath in her own way.
But this time she’s not alone. She’s helped by a man who seems vaguely familiar. Roy Blackwood is gorgeous, powerful, and controlled. She tells herself she wants nothing to do with him.
Roy sees through her resistance and is determined to unravel the mysteries of Daisy. He promises to find the identity of her birth parents and unveil the person who leaves her anonymous gifts. And most important of all, earn the love and trust of Daisy Aldridge.

Review:

It isn’t a mystery that the protagonist, Daisy, has secrets. She has not had the best or most pleasant life growing up. Immediately my heart went out to Daisy. I felt like I wanted to hug her and reminder her that things would get better. She had survived a horrific (sexual) assault and lived to tell the tale. That in itself is quite a feat. Although, just surviving doesn’t mean “able to live with”. Daisy constantly has flash backs and little moments that keep her in fear, which I believe it to be expected. She still proved to be a very strong character and I liked her for that. There is a love interest… Roy. Roy was not without his own secrets (none of which I will spill here… you’ll have to read the book!) He wanted nothing more than to reassure Daisy of how amazing and special she was. Of course, with Daisy’s past, words have little meaning without action behind them. This was a constant them between the two of them as they figured out how to get the other to open up and learn to trust.

The suspense found within this story was very well done. There were some moments when it felt like it took a back seat to the rather adult scenes in the book, but that changed in the second half. This was a quick read but it was really good. Would I recommend? If you take into account there are some trigger scenes and are okay with that, then yes I would recommend. The cover was what drew me in, the blurb hooked me, and the story sold me. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
