ARC Review: Kingsbane

Kingsbane (Empirium, #2)

**I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review**

Buckle up, darlings, you’re in for a treat with the next installment in the Imperium Triology as Kingsbane did not disappoint.

Kingsbane picked up right were Furyborn left off. Rielle tried to wrap her head around and make amends with everything that happened during the trials. She was appointed as the Sun Queen but finds that not everyone shared believed she should have that title. She also struggles with Corien and his promise of her freedom. Then we have Eliana, who was trying to understand and control her new found power while accepting her fate. She wanted nothing more than to not become like her mother. The alternating POVs of these two protagonists was brilliantly executed. I’ve always enjoyed how Legrand mastered telling these character’s stories at the same time.

While this is a powerhouse of a story and one heck of an intimidating sized book, Legrand did a brilliant job of keeping the momentum going throughout this nearly 600 page beast. Not only did I get to read more about the world of Avitas, I was introduced to Borsvall, Astavar, and several other places. It gave me a grander idea of just how huge this world was and the magic systems within said cities/towns/places.

For me, the best part of the story was the ever-growing tension between Corien and Rielle. Their story really gained a new found depth as I was given a clearer picture into their relationship. They both gained a new level of complexity that added yet one more layer into this already layered story. But rest assured that the dynamic between these two did not take away from the story -oh no, it only enhanced the story.

The twists and turns Legrand threw into this masterpiece left me breathless. I was tearing through this book and before I knew it, I was left with one heck of a cliff-hanger that had me screaming! It is going to be torture to wait for the next book in the series but it will be worth the wait.

Make sure to grab this gem when it comes out in a couple of weeks. You certainly do not want to miss out on this one.
